Asman The Sky

Latiful islam Shibli's novel 'Asman The Sky' is a fiction based on fact. A Bangladeshi man was released from America's notorious Guantanamo Bay prison after serving 12 years without trial. The Washington Post's report shocked the whole of Bangladesh. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs quickly clarified that Bangladesh will not take responsibility for terrorists. An American Army cargo plane dropped him off at Tirana Airport in Albania. Without a travel document and without a country, no nation on earth is willing to grant him political asylum. He has to stay in the Red Cross shelter with refugee status. Where will the man go now? When all known doors close, an unknown door opens. When life is imprisoned, it transcends life. The story of that life becomes larger than life itself. The place is real, the time is real, the history is real; only the characters are fictional. This is a story of a stateless man's struggle, a tale that asks profound questions about identity, justice, and belonging.
