Democracy in Bangladesh

Democracy in Bangladesh' is based on selected papers from two conferences on Bangladesh held at Harvard University in 2008 and 2009. The volume tackles a range of challenging topics, from the linkages between democracy and security to the effects of electoral systems on political stability. It also examines micro-national autonomy for subregional peace, terrorism and counter-forces, the role of NGOs in development and social change, intra-regional cooperation in conflict mitigation, and refugee-related violence in South Asia.

A common thread running through the eight chapters is the need for multidimensional interactions in the search for common ground where negotiations can take place. The aim is to resolve issues, problems and conflicts at different socio-political and economic levels. Contributors include academics, policy implementers, researchers and consultants, all united by a quest to understand the complex process of democratization for sustainable, multifaceted political development in Bangladesh.
