Around the world in 80 days

Jules Verne's adventure novel 'Around the World in 80 Days' first appeared in French in 1872. The story follows Phileas Fogg, a London gentleman, who wagers £20,000 with his friends at the Reform Club that he can circle the globe in just eighty days. Accompanied by his newly hired French valet, Passepartout, Fogg embarks on a frantic journey that pushes him through trains, ships, and every other mode of transport available in the nineteenth century. Every delay and every obstacle threatens to cost him the bet and his reputation.

Verne packs the narrative with tight pacing, vivid travelogue detail, and a memorable cast of characters. The relentless chase and the quiet, methodical personality of Fogg keep the reader turning pages. This is a classic for anyone who enjoys clever plotting, light humor, and a story that celebrates human determination. The book remains a benchmark of the adventure genre, and its influence is still visible in modern travel tales and films.
